Zoe Ball's last words before signing off Radio 2 as comeback confirmed
Presenter Zoe Ball is reported to be returning to her Radio 2 show next week after taking a sudden extended time off
by Charlotte Everett · The MirrorZoe Ball's last words before signing off Radio 2 have been revealed as her comeback has been confirmed.
The radio star is set to return to her show next week after taking weeks off from the station. She has not confirmed why she hasn't presented since the beginning of August but she will be back on Monday 23 September where she will host the Maximum Music Monday show.
Her last words before her extended absence have now been revealed - with fans having no idea that she wouldn't be speaking to them over the air waves as usual. The night before she was meant to present her show, Zoe told her followers on social media: "See you at dawn."
Radio 2 fans showed up the next morning expecting to hear Zoe's voice but instead were met by stand-in Gaby Roslin instead. She was then replaced by Scott Mills days later when he addressed Zoe's absence by saying: "Good Morning. You weren't expecting me were you? Welcome to Monday. It's Scott Mills," introduced the host.
Addressing the confusion, he added: "If you set your alarm every morning to go off at 6.30 and normally Zoe comes on please do not freak out. You have not overslept. I'm here doing the Breakfast Show do not panic. It's early. You aren't late for work. It's Monday 12th August."
Following the news bulletin at 8am, Scott addressed the switch-up again as he told listeners: "If you've just put us on this morning, it's Scott Mills in for Zoe for the next few weeks. I'm sending you all my love Zo' as are the team."
Zoe had only returned to her BBC show on Monday 5 August after a lengthy break. Returning to the airwaves last week, Zoe joked: "What did I miss?" Zoe initially came back just days after she said it was her mum's "heavenly" birthday which was the first one since she passed away in April.
The Radio 2 presenter announced in early March that her mother had been diagnosed with cancer and was being "incredibly brave". It was confirmed that Gaby Roslin would "occasionally" replace her on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show so she could spend time with her mother who was later taken to a hospice. Just 12 weeks later Zoe announced that her mum had sadly died.
Announcing her mum's death, Zoe said: "Sleep tight dear Mama. Thank you for teaching us how to love unconditionally, to always show courage and empathy, and how, even in the darkest of days, laughter is the greatest of gifts. We are bereft without you but will hold so tight to each other."
Zoe will be back at work on Monday, with the radio show description reading: "Wake up and embrace the day with Zoe Ball and the team. Zoe keeps the tunes rolling on Maximum Music Monday."
