Cowboys owner Jerry Jones loved eating squirrel brain: ‘Delicious’
· New York PostJerry Jones had some wild food tastes growing up — literally.
Earlier this week, Panthers wideout Xavier Legette expressed a taste for raccoon, and Jones, who grew up in Arkansas, was asked during his weekly spot on 105.3 the Fan in Dallas about if he’s ever eaten the animal.
“I’ve eaten a lot of raccoon. The answer is yes. … It’s not uncommon at all,” Jones said.
“One of my favorites is squirrel. It’s wonderful. We all had our favorite pieces. … My mom and I would even ask for the brain of the squirrel. Delicious. Seriously.”
Last week, Legette appeared on “The St. Brown Brothers” podcast with NFL receivers Amon-Ra and Equanimeous and was asked about his “hottest food take” or something bizarre he likes to eat.
“I eat raccoon,” Legette responded.
Equanimeous had to make sure he heard right: “You what? What do you mean, raccoon?”
Legette doubled down.
“Like the raccoon you see in the trash can,” he said. “I hunt it, I kill it, I skin it, cook ‘em, eat ‘em. All of that.”
Legette, who was born in South Carolina, added that he’s eaten one relatively recently, as his cousin hunted it and brought it to Thanksgiving dinner.
“All my people do hunting and all that,” Legette said. “My cousin is the one that killed it, and came and was like, ‘Come on, we got the raccoon.’”
Amon-Ra said that it sounded crazy while Equanimeous asked what the animal tastes like.
“It’s got its own touch,” Legette explained. “You know everybody says it still tastes like chicken, but raccoon got its own touch though.”
