With just six weeks to go until advent, now’s the time to snap up the best calendar options for your loved ones. For the Wizarding World fans in your life, this LEGO Harry Potter advent calendar, packed with eight mini figures and small Hogwarts-themed builds, is down to £24.99 at Amazon, which is a 17% discount.

Included mini figures include Harry himself, Albus Dumbledore, Draco Malfoy, Cho Chang and Susan Bones, Hedwig the owl, Professor Flitwick and one of the castle’s ghosts, all Christmas-themed and collectible. Mini figures can pick up some value as the years go by, especially the unusual ones, so they may be worth snapping up while they’re available!

Behind the other sixteen advent calendar doors you’ll find a series of mini builds to help set out a Hogwarts Christmas scene, including gargoyles representing each of the houses, the Hogwarts Express, and two of fourteen collectible Hogwarts portraits.

As with all things LEGO, everything included in this calendar is compatible with other Lego sets. The calendar’s a great complement to the LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Great Hall set currently down to £134.99 from £169.99. At 1,732 pieces, it’s the largest official Lego rendition of the Great Hall to date and comes with its own cadre of eleven Harry Potter mini figures.

The advent calendar has a massive 4.8/5 average user rating on Amazon and plenty of five-star recommendations. One Christmas-prepared customer said: “All intact, as a Harry Potter fan know she will love this. 24 decorated windows, easy to assemble. Various figures and objects to add to other Harry Potter LEGO sets she owns, so, not just for Christmas. Well presented.” It’s got other users doubly excited for December 1st: “Looks fantastic, can’t wait to use it for the Chrimbo countdown.”

With an average of 4.6/5, the Great Hall set is also a hit with Amazon customers. “Loved this build, loads to enjoy. Fantastic figures (especially the troll). Amazing detail,” said one five-star review.

Unfortunately, some customers have had some issues with the calendar’s included pieces. “I bought this early for my daughter and after checking the pieces we have Cho Chang on both the 6th and 7th and no Ravenclaw table with the Bertie Botts and notebook,” said one three-star review. There have been similar issues reported with the Great Hall set: “Unfortunately, the troll came missing,” said one.

Lego’s customer support team are fantastic in this regard: if you ever purchase a genuine set that’s missing any pieces, give them a call and they will be able to send over the pieces you need at no charge.

If your kids prefer lightsabers to wands, there’s a LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar option for £29.99 to fit the bill. To complement this, the Imperial Star Destroyer set at £149.99 would be a great companion piece for the calendar’s mini figures. Elsewhere, you can bag a Hot Wheels advent calendar from Boots for £23.99, with different toy cars behind each window.

Or there's a Barbie advent calendar for £25.49, with December 24 bagging you a bigger doll.
