Barca reach ‘full agreement’ to sign Chelsea star, with chief travelling to London to finalise deal

Barcelona have reportedly reached a ‘full transfer agreement’ with Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen, with Blaugrana chief executive Mateu Alemany travelling to London today to complete the deal.

Christensen has been at Chelsea since 2012, following a move from Brondby in his native Denmark. The centre-back had a loan spell in Germany with Borussia Monchengladbach before becoming a first-team regular.

Christensen has been vital to the success of manager Thomas Tuchel over the past 13 months. He helped the Blues to win the Champions League and UEFA Super Cup last term.

The 25-year-old was also in the team when Chelsea beat Spurs to reach the Carabao Cup final. But Tuchel’s side could not add to their trophy cabinet as Liverpool overcame them in a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

Christensen missed the clash at Wembley as he continues to recover from an achilles problem. Despite the injury, speculation over the star’s future continues to be rife.

He is out of contract on June 30 and Barca are hoping to pull off a transfer coup. According to Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, the La Liga outfit have reached a ‘full agreement’ with Christensen for him to join this summer.

Only ‘disaster’ will stop Andreas Christensen move

The 54-cap international will move to the Nou Camp unless a transfer ‘disaster’ occurs, claims Romero.

Spanish radio station El Partidazo de Cope add to the rumours by stating Alemany has travelled to London to finalise proceedings. Christensen has ‘no intention’ of renewing at Stamford Bridge, giving Barca a free run at the star.

And he is not the only integral Chelsea player who could leave for nothing in the summer. Skipper Cesar Azpilicueta, as well as powerhouse centre-half Antonio Rudiger, are both in the same situation.

Should any of the trio go through with an exit then the Blues may have to turn to Sevilla’s Jules Kounde as a replacement. He has a release clause worth £77m.

Cesc Fabregas sends Christensen advice

Former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has already told Christensen how he can up his game.

“He seems like a great player to me and his contract is up,” Fabregas said (via Sport Witness). “When I arrived at Chelsea, in 2014, he was already training with us from time to time.

“He was the typical young man who went up, and then you could see the way he read the game, the way he anticipated.

“I always say that, sometimes, he needs to be a little bit more scrappy, right?

“He’s a very good kid, and sometimes it’s a little bit of what I see in Eric (Garcia), although I don’t know him.

“And today, in football, if you want to shove without hurting anyone, you have to be a little bit more forceful.”
