Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will hope the international break can provide enough time for his players to recover

Arsenal clinched a crucial 1-0 win against Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon, bouncing back from a 2-0 defeat Liverpool inflicted upon them just three days earlier.

Bukayo Saka's goal helped the north Londoners stay fourth in the current Premier League standings, three points clear of Tottenham Hotspur, who have played one more league match than their local rivals. Gunners boss Mikel Arteta will hope that the break can offer some much-needed rest for his injured players.

Aaron Ramsdale

Ramsdale missed the 1-0 win over Aston Villa due to an oblique muscle injury sustained in the 2-0 loss to Liverpool. Arteta has withdrawn him from Gareth Southgate's England squad for their friendlies this month as a result. The problem isn't thought to be too serious but Arteta revealed he will be out for a number of weeks.

What Mikel Arteta has said: "He wasn’t confident in the last 50 or 60 minutes against Liverpool. We scanned him and he had a proper injury and a sore muscle."

Expected return: Crystal Palace, April 2

Bukayo Saka

Saka came in for some heavy treatment against Aston Villa, with the Gunners attacker having to be replaced after 69 minutes. He spoke to the referee at half-time about some of the challenges on him, but said he'll be ok for the Gunners' next clash.

What Mikel Arteta has said: "He was really fatigued as well. After Liverpool he had an issue in his hip and he’s played a lot of minutes and you could tell. We didn’t want to risk him because he has to go with England now so we decided to take him off. [He] should be fine [for England]."

Takehiro Tomiyasu

Takehiro Tomiyasu is still working his way back from his latest calf injury. Issue on both legs have kept him out for some time, but the club hopeful of a return soon. The right-back missed out on a call-up for Japan but there are hopes that he may make an appearance in the squad against Palace, albeit the club's medical team are remaining coy on his estimated return date.

What Mikel Arteta has said: “He had a recurring injury around the same place. After that you have to be very cautious.”

Gabriel Martinelli

Martinelli also missed the win at Villa Park after falling ill in the build-up to the match. However, he still travelled with the rest of the Brazil squad ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Bolivia, meaning he is likely fine now

What Mikel Arteta has said: “He’s been sick for the last few days so he’s out of the squad, unfortunately.”
