Lucasfilm's OBI-WAN KENOBI Series Will Reportedly Feature Another Major Jedi Character

by · GeekTyrant

A bit of interesting news has dropped regarding Lucasfilm’s upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series. There are already a lot of interesting things happening with this series that Star Wars fans are excited about.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is set 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, "where Kenobi faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, turned evil Sith Lord, Darth Vader."

The series will also bring back Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, and he will once again be facing off with Hayden Christensen's Darth Vader. We also know that a young version of Luke and Leia will be involved with the series. But, there’s another major Jedi character that will reportedly appear.

If you don’t want to know, then don’t read ahead.

According to Making Star Wars' Jason Ward, Liam Neeson’s Qui-Gon Gin Jinn will be showing up as well! In a recent interview with  Star Wars Santa, Ward shared, "Well that's my question about Qui-Gon. I know Qui-Gon's in it, but I don't know if he's a voice-over or if he's a physical ghost."

Ward quickly added, "That was a really big scoop, by the way, I just dropped. I know he's in it now. Like I know. I've been told [gives 'thumbs up' sign]."

Personally, I expected Qui-Gon to show up in some way or form, as a Force Ghost or something. It just made sense to see the two characters reunite during Obi-Wan’s time on Tatooine. Neeson has said multiple times that he is open to returning to the role if Lucasfilm ever asked him. Well, it seems like they actually may have asked him. It’ll be interesting to see how Qui-Gon will be used in the story.

As for the story, it’s been said that Leia Organa of Alderaan will play a “big” part in the series and these are the rumored details that were previously shared:

We have learned that Obi-Wan will have an important mission in the series that involve none other than her highnessness, Princess Leia! As we know, the Kenobi series takes place 10 years after Revenge of the Sith, so this will be a 10-year-old Leia in the series.

Additionally, we’ve learned that the princess managed to get herself into trouble, even at this young age. From what we’ve heard, it appears that the princess is being held prisoner in a Cantina-like establishment where we will see a healthy mixture of new and familiar creatures.

Of course, Obi-Wan’s task will be to rescue the princess. With a young Leia’s significant involvement in the series, we know that her adopted parents will also play a role. As we all know, Bail Organa adopted Leia after her birth, so actor Jimmy Smits who played the Senator in the prequels and returned for 2016’s Rogue One, will also make an important appearance.

The series is being directed by Deborah Chow from scripts written by Hossein Amini (Drive, McMafia) and Joby Harold (John Wick 3, Awake, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword). The series also stars Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Moses Ingram, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.

The series will premiere on May 25th, 2022.
