Newcastle's 'best kept secret' pub becomes Verbier après-ski heaven after Christmas makeover

by · ChronicleLive

It's given serious winter vibes since its launch in the summer, but now a bar in Newcastle is pure après-ski heaven, having had a festive makeover for Christmas.

There was a lot of curiosity on Pudding Chare earlier this year, when signs went up on the building that used to be Clear bar, then Mimo and most recently, The Green Man, to announce that it had been taken on by new owners and something exciting was coming. well, after a lot of work went on behind closed doors, all was revealed in July, when The Prince had its grand opening, just as its neighbour Fleet Street made a shock comeback, nine years after it shut down.

Ahead of its launch, it was teased that the bar's owners, Robert Clarkson and Tom Byron, the same successful duo who have already brought us Market Shaker, the revamped Pumphreys and Frate, that they were aiming to not just be a pub, but an all year round après ski cabin, as a touch of Folie Douce is brought to the Toon.

And now, after a summer that saw them attract plenty of football supporters to enjoy live coverage of the Euros, The Prince is now set to be one of the must visit places in the city centre to enjoy a Christmas catch-up, as decorations have gone up inside and out, making customers feel like they could be on a trip to the Alps, rather than just out with their mates in town.

The inside of The Prince has now been adorned with wreaths, garlands and twinkling lights, with red stockings and white stars hung to give some added festive feels. The exterior of the pub is also now very much looking the part too, with its upper floor windows covered in red, with lights from top to bottom.
