I'm A Celebrity star breaks down and becomes first to quit trial as Ant and Dec in hysterics
by Joe Crutchley · NottinghamshireLiveAn I'm A Celebrity contestant has become the first to quit a trial in this year's series. The ITV show returned on Tuesday (November 19), with Ant and Dec at the helm, as they checked in on the latest group of celebrities braving the Australian jungle.
This year's lineup includes stars such as Tulisa, Oti Mabuse, Jane Moore, Danny Jones, and Dean McCullough, who have all agreed to endure the challenging conditions for several weeks. They are joined by Coleen Rooney, GK Barry, and Melvin Odoom, all competing for the title of King or Queen of the Jungle.
In the latest episode on Tuesday (November 18), BBC Radio 1 DJ Dean McCullough faced his first Bushtucker Trial, and the series' second, 'The Sinister Sarcophagus'. Upon arriving at the Trial area, Dean encountered a mummy figurine that he had to be secured into for the duration of the Trial.
At the same time, he had to answer a set of Egypt-themed questions, reports the Express. For each correct answer, a star would descend, which he had to release using only his mouth within 30 seconds.
Dean expressed his dissatisfaction to Ant and Dec about the trial, saying: "You're so extra this series, so extra! " He then added: "I went to Egypt years ago, but I wasn't paying attention.", reports the Daily Record.
As he climbed into the sarcophagus, Dean admitted: "This is my worst nightmare because I can't get out."
Shortly after, sand filled the body compartment, followed by giant mealworms and crickets being poured into his head compartment. Following a successful start, answering two questions and securing the stars, Dean found it all too overwhelming and uttered the show's iconic phrase: "I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! ".
Visibly shaken, Dean broke down after the trial, with Ant and Dec on hand to offer words of comfort. "Hey, hey, you're alright," they reassured him as he struggled to catch his breath.
Ant acknowledged, "Sometimes you just can't do it," while a tearful Dean confessed his distress at being unable to move his legs. Unfortunately, the hosts then revealed that he had only earned 2 stars for the camp.
On social media, fans were quick to react to Dean's decision to exit the trial, with many predicting a likely outcome. Viewers across various platforms speculated that Dean would now be more likely to be voted for in upcoming trials.
One fan commented, "Dean the weasel. More voting for him," while another added, "Oh Dean get ready for a few more trials."
A third viewer noted, "Everyone is going to vote for Dean again."
