TV star Alison Hammond was in tears when she discussed sacrificing spending time with her son to advance in her career.

The This Morning presenter, 49, accepted the Role Model Award at the Multicultural Business & Community Champion Awards in Birmingham this week. However, she soon got emotional as she discussed the amount of hard work she put into to get to where she is today.

She also added that she did it all for her 19-year-old son Aidan, who she shares with her former partner, Noureddine Boufaied. The star is a presenter on This Morning. She also presents The Great British Bake Off and took over For the Love of Dogs from Paul O'Grady following his death. The star has also worked on Alison Hammond's Big Weekend and Florida Unpacked, which are upcoming shows.

While accepting her award at the event, Alison teared up as she admitted she 'worked so hard' and told the audience: "When you work so hard there are sacrifices you have to make and I’ve sacrificed a lot of time with my son, over there and I just want to say to my son, I love you so much, son."

She continued, as reported by The Sun: "And I’m so sorry I haven’t always been there, but I’ll be honest with you, the reason I was doing it was only for you. Sorry, I’m getting emotional because I don’t normally get recognised for things like this so, thank you for recognising me, it means an absolute…so much to me.

It comes after Alison opened up about her close relationship with Aidan and how he gives her relationship advice. In October, she said he supports her romance with younger boyfriend David Putman, 26. It was revealed she was dating David earlier this year after they were spotted enjoying a series of days out together.

Speaking on Romesh Ranganathan's Parents Evening alongside Aidan, the pair were asked who is the best when it comes to giving advice. Alison replied directing her comments at Aidan: "When it comes to relationship advice you're very good! But when it comes to career advice I'm not sure!"

Alison has previously admitted that Aiden approved of David who works as a dancer and model but studied body therapy at uni and claims he can help with “classic, lymphatic drainage, anti-cellulite, wraps, and facial massage”.
