12 areas in UK where it could snow before Christmas including Newcastle

by · ChronicleLive

New weather maps have unveiled the UK towns and cities bracing for snow next week, with 12 locations on alert.

WXCharts' latest update suggests a white blanket could cover the UK in time for Christmas, including on the big day itself.

The data pinpoints areas most likely to be hit by snowfall, with the West Midlands, Manchester, and Stoke-on-Trent at the top of the list. The Yorkshire Dales and the region between Carlisle and Darlington are expected to see the heaviest snow, with Newcastle also making the list.

Meanwhile, Worcester and Hampshire residents might witness lighter wintry showers. These forecasts coincide with expert warnings of "heavy snow" in certain regions.

James Madden from Exacta Weather predicts that snowfall could begin as early as the end of this week. He commented: "Our current forecast projections also show a higher than normal probability for some moderate to heavy snow at times across parts of northern England and Wales, and a more moderate to slightly less high possibility of this in some central regions of the country and to the east of Ireland for this same period.

"Additionally, throughout Thursday and into Friday will also bring the risk of some at least transient and moderate to heavy snow in parts as far south as central and southern England and in and around the capital, particularly during the late and early hours in this period, when it will be significantly cooler and more optimum for snow to fall and settle in these parts.", reports the Mirror.

The expert told people to expect "wintry weather and snow showers". He added: "Widespread snow showers will be falling across certain parts of the country by next Wednesday, before something much bigger and a major snowstorm during 23-27 December. By next Wednesday, December 18-19, we will now see some widespread snow showers of varying intensity developing across the country once again, and despite them being more potent and noticeable across the northern half of the country, there is no reason why some parts quite far south won't also see some form of wintry weather and snow showers developing during this period."
