A man has expressed his hurt after his wife insisted on going to a French restaurant for an “intimate” meal with her co-worker - for a very peculiar reason.
Aside from career satisfaction or progression, befriending a colleague can be one of the most positive aspects of having a job. You get to meet someone you may never have crossed paths with, and you get a friend who understands the ins and outs of your usual day-to-day better than most.
But one man has been left scratching his head after his wife, who has been going through a difficult time following a miscarriage, sought solace in an intimate meal out with her co-worker.
On Reddit, the man explained: “Last week, my wife asked me if she could take her co-worker out to a French restaurant for dinner since he was French, too. I was really uncomfortable with it, and I asked my wife why couldn’t she take him out for breakfast, because a dinner just felt intimate. My wife however really wanted to do it and promised there was nothing intimate in it, and it was just getting to know him.
“My wife and I also share our locations with each other. After thinking about it for a bit, I told her sure, because she had been through a lot the past year, and if this would help her mentally, then good for her.”
He said his wife was “really grateful” and thanked him “a lot”, but he “was still really uncomfortable and sad” about the situation. After not acting like himself around his wife for a few days, she noticed and apologised, and asked if it was due to her going out with her co-worker.
The man wasn’t honest about his feelings and simply told his wife he “just needed some space and time to work things through”. At the weekend, he took his sister and nephew out to the cinema, then they went for dinner at an Italian restaurant afterwards, and he made sure his wife knew she wasn’t invited.
He added: “My wife and I usually go out on weekends, but that day, I just told her to do her own thing. And to be honest, the movie and the dinner really helped, and I think I am over it now.
“When I came back home I was really happy, but my wife still seemed sad. I apologised and told her I just needed some time away from her, but that seems to have done the trick because I was feeling mentally refreshed. It’s been a couple of days, and my wife and I are mostly back to normal, but my wife still seems somewhat sad.”
People shared their thoughts in the comments section. One person simply said: “Everyone in this story is behaving very weirdly.” Another saw the man’s perspective and said: “If my husband took another woman out to dinner one on one, I don't think I would be okay.”
