A woman has been killed in a horror accident on in Dumfries and Galloway.

The 36-year-old was driving a Ford KA when it collided with a lorry on the A75 near Eastriggs at around 9.30am on Wednesday morning.

Emergency services raced to the crash site but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The A75 has been closed for most of the day and is likely to remain shut for some time while police carry out their investigation.

Drivers have been urged to avoid the area, with motorists being told to follow a diversion on the B721.

Sergeant Colin Ramage said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who died at this difficult time. Officers will be supporting them through the investigation.

"Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash, and who has not already spoken to officers, to get in touch.

"I would also appeal to anyone who was driving in this area around that time and who may have dash cam footage which could assist us to contact us."

The accident involved a black Ford KA and a green DAF articulated lorry.
