Stephen Mulhern, the ever-smiling and charismatic TV personality known for his knack of entertaining the masses, has recently been dealing with immense personal grief.
The 47-year-old ITV presenter was incredibly close to his father Christopher and is mourning his loss after his dad recently passed away.
This sorrow, combined with a reaction to an anaesthetic, resulted in Stephen collapsing at a Pizza Express in Sunningdale, Berkshire, earlier this week. It's thought that Stephen had an adverse reaction to medication after consuming a few drinks with his meal.
Earlier that day, he had undergone a procedure which required anaesthesia. The host of Catchphrase and Deal or No Deal is now recuperating after being taken to Frimley Park hospital in Camberley, Surrey as a precautionary measure, the Mirror reports.
However, the past few weeks have been challenging for the star following his father's passing. A source revealed that the bereavement "hit him hard", but it's understood that Stephen has received ongoing support from his team, ITV bosses, and long-time friend Holly Willoughby - his co-host for the comeback of challenge show You Bet!
A sourced told The Sun: "Stephen has been going through an incredibly tough time of late. He is grieving the loss of his dad to whom he was so, so close. He's also been battling several well-documented health problems, and on Wednesday morning had a procedure requiring a local anaesthetic.

"He took himself off for a quiet, solo dinner that evening, had a few drinks and just reacted incredibly badly. He's only human, and his dad's death has hit him hard... He's so grateful for the care he received, and is mortified that he had such an awful - and public - reaction to the anaesthetic."
Stephen, who has often reminisced about his childhood with his father in London's East End, had to cancel appointments at Butlin's holiday parks last month due to his dad's passing. Following his collapse at the restaurant this week, Stephen was swiftly taken to hospital by ambulance.
This incident echoes a health scare from 2022 when Stephen took three weeks off work. Sharing on X, previously known as Twitter, he commented: "Hello all, Sorry I've been quiet on here recently and thank you for all your lovely messages. I've had some time off and been resting up on doctor's orders."
