Searches are ongoing for a missing diver who vanished in Orkney around 24 hours ago.
Emergency services were called to Scapa Flow after the alarm was raised at around 2.30pm on Wednesday, November 27. Two coastguard helicopters, a fixed wing aircraft, rescue teams from Kirkwall, Hoy and St Margarets and lifeboats from Longhope and Thurso all assisted.
Searches were stood down at around 3.30am before mercy crews returned to the area this morning. Officers from Police Scotland are understood to be involved in the ongoing multi-agency search of the area.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.30pm on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, we were made aware of a diver missing in Scapa Flow. Officers are involved in an ongoing multi-agency search of the area.”
A Coastguard spokesperson said: "The search for a missing diver in Scapa Flow has been stood down. HM Coastguard coordinated the search for a diver who was reported missing in Scapa Flow just after 2.30pm yesterday.
"Two coastguard helicopters, a coastguard fixed wing aircraft, coastguard rescue teams from Kirkwall, Hoy and St Margarets and lifeboats from Longhope and Thurso all assisted in the search along with a number of vessels that were in the area. The search was terminated just after 3am this morning."
