A man had a stand-off with police at his Strathaven home after reports of a domestic disturbance.

Hamilton Sheriff Court heard Craig Richardson warned officers they'd have to break down his door to get into the ground floor flat.

But the officers gained entry after getting a key from his mother. There was then a violent struggle as Richardson was being arrested.

Richardson, 40, appeared from custody and admitted threatening or abusive behaviour at his home in Park Crescent on April 21.

He also admitted resisting arrest but an allegation that he abducted his partner and detained her against her will at the flat was dropped.

The court heard police were called to the property about 4.30pm after a "verbal altercation" between Richardson and his partner was overheard by a neighbour.

Richardson was "uncooperative" and further police officers were called to help. He refused to leave the house and when officers finally opened the door he "resisted violently".

Richardson also admitted breaching bail conditions by contacting his partner at a house in Hill Street, Hamilton, on June 18.

Defence lawyer Scott Jones said his client has drug, alcohol and mental health issues and was placed on a court drug treatment and testing order in April.

Sheriff Colin Dunipace deferred sentence until next month for background reports. Richardson, who has been in custody since June, was again remanded.
