Ponnam seeks Centre’s support to set up EV charging stations, augment transport infrastructure in Telangana

Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Wednesday (November 27, 2024) met Union Minister for Transport Nitin Gadkari to discuss initiatives the former has taken, and sought the Union government’s assistance in augmenting transport infrastructure in Telangana.

Mr. Prabhakar was flanked by leaders, including parliamentarian Mallu Ravi and P. Balram Naik. Mr. Prabhakar. Mr. Prabhakar sought support in transitioning vehicle and driving licence data to Vahan and Sarathi platforms. He also sought assistance in terms of training motor vehicle inspectors and assistant motor vehicle inspectors.

The minister also underscored the need of support to set up EV charging stations, automation of 21 existing driving testing tracks, and upgradation of single-lane roads to double lanes in the Husnabad constituency.

He sought the Union government’s support for the allocation of 40 acres of land in Medchal-Malkajgiri district to establish an Institute of Driving Training and Research (IDTR), multi-lane automatic vehicle fitness testing station, and integrated command and control centre for keeping an eye on vehicles, and implementing electronic enforcement systems.
