Minister inspects rope car service at temple in Sholinghur
by The Hindu Bureau · The Hindu:
Minister for Handlooms and Textiles R. Gandhi on Friday inspected civic amenities and the rope car facility at Sri Lakshminarasimhar temple in Sholinghur
The inspection comes in the wake of strong winds stalling four cabins of the rope car, mid-way to the temple, on Thursday. The incident occurred around 9.40 a.m.
The devotees safely landed at the temple an hour later. The rope car service resumed only around 3 p.m.
“The area near the temple has been witnessing strong winds for the past few days. Safety measures are in place to prevent any untoward incidents,” a HR&CE official told The Hindu.
At present, the rope car operates between 8.30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on all days, including Sundays. Based on first-cum-first-service, the HR&CE, which maintains the temple, allows about 1,000 visitors to reach the temple through a rope car. Remaining devotees have to walk to the hillock. A nominal fee of ₹100 is charged (onward and return journey) per person.
Against this backdrop, Mr. Gandhi inspected basic facilities including water taps, washrooms, changing rooms, and the canteen at the basement of the temple.
Mr. Gandhi travelled in the rope car with senior HR&CE officials including S. Jaya, Deputy Commissioner (DC), HR&CE (Ranipet). The Minister also launched annadanam (distribution of free food) for devotees using the facility.
