Mangaluru: Home Minister stresses on creating atmosphere for all to live peacefully

Home Minister G. Parameshwara said on Friday that the country needs an atmosphere for people of all faiths to live peacefully.

He was speaking after inaugurating the 92nd Sarvadharma Sammelana at Dharmasthala organised on the occasion of lakshadeepotsava of Manjunatha Swamy Temple.

He said it is not enough if one becomes a graduate or double graduate. There should be a conducive atmosphere for living peacefully. India is considered a fastest growing economy in the world. No country has multiple religions like India. Yet people have been living cordially. Peace should prevail all over the parts of India, he said.

Asking the youth and others to have control over mind and thoughts, Dr. Paramehswara said the thoughts should support sustaining peace in society. He said that the late Manjayya Heggade, the then Pattadhikari of Dharmasthala, started Sarvadharma Sammelana in 1933 even before drafting the Indian Constitution. Thus, he stressed the importance of unity among people of all religions and faiths even before the Constitution stressed the same.

G.B. Harish, researcher and communicator of Bengaluru, N.M. Joseph, retired principal of Sacred Heart College, Madantyar, and Mehtab Ibrahim Saba Kagawada, teacher from Vijayapura and Jayendra Puri, seer of Kailasa Ashrama Mahasmthana, Bengaluru, were the guest speakers. It was followed by a Bharatanatyam by the Shijith N. Parvathy Dance Ensemble of Chennai.

The 92nd sahitya sammelana will be held at Dharmasthala at 5 p.m. on Saturday. It will be presided over by Padekallu Vishnu Bhatta, retired principal and researcher. Scholar R. Ganesh will inaugurate it. Pramila Madhav, retired Kannada professor of Bengaluru, B.V. Vasantha Kumar, former president of Karnataka Sahitya Academy, and Morabada Mallikarjuna, director, Publication Department, JSS Maha Vidyapeetha, Mysuru, will be the guest speakers. It will be followed by a musical night by Rajesh Krishnan and team from Bengaluru.
