Kalaburagi Prison Chief Superintendent gets audio threat message

by · The Hindu

Kalaburagi Central Prison Chief Superintendent R. Anita allegedly received an anonymous audio message threatening that the officer’s vehicle would be blown up with explosives.

According to the police sources, the message was sent as an audio recording to a police inspector in Kalaburagi on his mobile phone. However, Ms. Anita did not personally get any such message.

The audio message raised safety concerns following which the officer’s official vehicle has been placed under continous CCTV surveillance. The police have started an investigation to identify the origin of the message.

Ms. Anita, who assumed charge one-and-a-half months ago, implemented strict measures in the jail and banned the sale of gutka and cigarettes, and use of cell phones. The officer also took punitive measures against preferential treatment being provided to influential persons in the prison.

Recently, Ms. Anita was in the eye of a storm after an inmate’s sister, Aneesa Begum, accused her of demanding bribes. She had alleged that Ms. Anita demanded ₹25,000 from her brother Mustafa in jail, and she had transferred ₹10,000 to her account. Aneesa Begum also complained to the Chief Justice of India, Chief Minister, and the Home Minister, a copy of which went viral on social media.
