The Greater Manchester areas where Met office forecasts snow this week

by · Manchester Evening News

Winter is drawing in, and though temperatures have been mild so far we can expect to see them plummet over the coming days.

The Met Office say weather across the UK will become increasingly 'unsettled' from Saturday night, with snow and ice weather warnings in place across northern England and Scotland from Monday.

Greater Manchester is one of the places in the UK most likely to see some snowfall early next week - but not everywhere will get a glimpse of the white stuff.

Snow and ice warnings in place across northern Scotland and the Northern Isles from Sunday afternoon to Monday morning. A separate warning for snow and ice then comes into force on Monday morning, lasting into Tuesday morning, for much of northern England and southern Scotland.

While these warnings do not cover Greater Manchester, yet, snow is still forecast to fall in parts of the region. In addition to the severe weather warnings, a cold health alert has been issued by the UKHSA for five regions in England. The alert covers the North of England as well as the Midlands from Sunday night through to Thursday morning.

We've put together a list of all the places in Greater Manchester where snow is forecast by the Met Office as of Saturday night.

Oldham

It could start snowing in Oldham as early as 9pm on Monday, according to the Met Office. However, the heaviest snowfall is likely to be between midnight and 6am in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Rochdale

Snow in Rochdale looks likely to be a little more sleet-like than in Oldham, but you could expect to see some here. If you do, it will be between 9pm on Monday night and 6am on Tuesday morning.

Tameside

Much like in Rochdale there may be more chance of sleet than snow here, but if you're lucky you might catch some between 9pm on Monday and 6am on Tuesday.

Bolton

Bolton could see a little snow between midnight and 6am on Tuesday.

Bury

Bury could see a few hours of snow between 3am and 6am on Tuesday, according to the Met Office.
