Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney takeover sees US shoppers go mad for Welsh lager brand
by Liam Randall · Wales OnlineShoppers in the US are going mad for a Welsh lager brand after it was taken over by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
The two Hollywood actors acquired a majority stake in Wrexham Lager in a deal announced at the end of last month.
It follows the pair achieving huge success with Wrexham AFC after taking the club from the National League to League One.

As part of the investment, it was revealed that the beer would soon be available in the United States and Canada.
The first cans have appeared on shelves in branches of American alcohol retailer Total Wine during the last few days.
Packs of the lager have since been flying out of the doors, with US-based Wrexham supporters scrambling to buy them.
Celebrating the arrival in a post on X, A-lister Reynolds said: “It’s a Thanksgiving Eve Miracle. Welcome to @WXM_Lager, now available in the US. Find it where wine, beer, and more are totally sold.”
Karen White and her husband Jason, who live in Phoenix, Arizona, were quick to get their hands on some after sampling it on a visit to North Wales last year.
Speaking after they discovered its availability from another local Wrexham supporter, she said: “When my husband and I first visited Wrexham in 2023, having a Wrexham Lager was high on our to-do list. In fact, shortly after checking into our hotel, we ran out and got one.
“That was the first of many we consumed all over town from The Fat Boar to The Wrexham Lager Club.
“When Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds purchased Wrexham Lager, we had hoped that we may be able to regularly purchase the beer here at home someday in the future.
“Then one of our members told us that he not only saw the beer at a local liquor store but he purchased some and was drinking it already.”
Karen added: “Our group has been abuzz ever since with many of us running out and picking up several four-packs of the beer from all across Phoenix, where it’s fairly well stocked.
“My husband and I bought the last two at our store, which is just under ten miles from our home.”
The purchase of Wrexham Lager was made by Reynolds and McElhenney in a joint venture with the Allyn family from New York, who recently bought a minority stake in Wrexham AFC.
The announcement created a huge surge of interest in the company, which has since confirmed it is looking to build a new, larger production facility in Wrexham city centre.
Karen said: “Though not as good as enjoying it in Wrexham with our Welsh friends, I am so thankful that it’s more readily available here in America. It’s a small slice of Wrexham in our backyard.”
