Jermaine Jenas dropped from another TV presenting role after BBC axe
by Mathew Davies, Dan Burnham · Wales OnlineJermaine Jenas has been relieved of his duties as presenter for Formula E after a single season with the competition.
The 41-year-old, a former BBC presenter, was hired last year to anchor TNT Sports' coverage but will not be continuing in the role following a switch in broadcasting rights to ITV and allegations of sending "inappropriate messages" to colleagues on The One Show.
Nicki Shields, who is no stranger to the tracks as a former pit lane reporter, will take over presenting duties. The team will also include Karun Chandhok, David Coulthard and Billy Monger.
Fans can watch all 16 E-Prix and every qualifying session live on ITV4 and ITVX, with a new highlights programme also set to feature.
Jenas, who played midfield for Tottenham Hotspur and England, had become a well-known figure in TV presenting since hanging up his boots. He has a portfolio that spans both sports and general entertainment and was even tipped to succeed Gary Lineker as the face of Match of the Day, reports the Mirror.
Starting as a co-host on The One Show in 2020, Jenas' tenure with the BBC came to an abrupt end in August this year after allegations of inappropriate conduct. Additionally, he has been absent from TNT's Premier League broadcasts since.
Jenas has confessed to non-illegal yet inappropriate behaviour and has expressed deep regret for his actions. Speaking to The Sun, he expressed remorse. He said: "I am ashamed, and I am deeply sorry. I have let myself down, my family, friends and colleagues down, and I owe everyone an apology especially the women with whom I was messaging.
"I am so, so sorry. I am sorry for what I have put them through. I think it would be fair to say I have a problem. I know I self-sabotage and have a self-destructive streak when it comes to my relationship especially, and I know I need help. And I am getting help."
Despite acknowledging his wrongdoings, Jenas made it clear: "I have made a lot of mistakes, and I am asking myself a lot of questions at the moment. I know there's a lot of work that needs to be done, and it will be hard. I did nothing illegal these were inappropriate messages between two consenting adults."
He further reflected on his conduct with remorse, stating: "I'm not proud of what I wrote and what I said. And I do consider it cheating, yes, although nothing physical ever happened. This is all on me and I fully accept there is a level of responsibility that needs to be upheld when you're a member of the BBC. And I fell below those standards. I must take the responsibility."
In the following weeks, additional allegations surfaced, including sending unsolicited explicit images to a woman during his time working at the World Cup in Qatar and harassing a junior makeup artist for sexual favours. A spokesperson for Jenas responded, insisting that the messages he sent were not unsolicited as claimed.
