UK set for 515-mile snow battering with 'three counties in England spared'

Fresh weather maps show a 515-mile snow and rain storm battering the UK within just days. New weather maps and charts modelled by WX Charts, which uses Met Desk data, shows temperatures plunging with the white stuff set to hammer England.

Snow is expected in the East Midlands, including Derbyshire, at around 6pm on December 3, and the flurries will sweep northwards to Scotland and the Highlands. The only areas in England that'll be spared either freezing rain or snow are Kent, Norfolk and Suffolk.

Accumulations could reach 2cm in the Pennines, the maps detail, and 4cm in Scotland, north of the border. James Madden, from Exacta Weather, explained: "The output and outlook are for some much colder conditions at times from this Monday, and widespread snow showers will develop across some large parts of the northern half of the country and in some parts as far south as central England and Northern Ireland for our exact dates of December 2-4.

"Additionally, this will be followed up by an even more potent, prolonged, and widespread snowy period for a longer duration of even higher confidence for that period of December 11-19 (possibly a little earlier) for which the output and outlook are even stronger for many parts of the country to experience ice and snow.

"I have some other important things I need to attend to today (nothing is up), and I also need to distribute the final December forecast details to subscribers, and the further details on what to expect and when for the upcoming snow from next week onwards will follow on here and the website shortly…"

The BBC Weather outlook for the week explains: "Remaining breezy on Monday, but cooler, with a mix of bright spells and showers across the UK, possibly wintry on Scottish hills. Tuesday will be dry and bright initially, with a band of rain pushing east later on, falling as snow on the northern hills. Wednesday will be dry and bright for many, but turning cloudier and windier in the far west later with rain by evening."
