Owen Mulligan teased Derry GAA, asking 'Why don't you take the knickers off us?' with the county set to appoint Tyrone native Paddy Tally.

Derry have been without a manager since Mickey Harte stepped down from the role. But fellow Tyrone man Tally is now in line to replace Harte.

And with back-to-back managers from Tyrone, Mulligan teased that Derry will 'take the knickers off us'.

Posting on X, he said: "@Doiregaa why don’t you take the knickers off us ? You’s have taken everything else."

Tally had agreed to stay with Kerry for a fourth year, but fresh overtures from Derry this week are understood to have led to a change of heart.

Derry were the only county left without a manager in the wake of Mickey Harte’s departure in early July after one year in charge.

A number of high profile candidates were linked with the job including James Horan, Peter Keane, Malachy O’Rourke, Karl Lacey and Jim Gavin.

But with no-one agreeing to take charge, Division 1 champions Derry found themselves in an increasingly difficult position.

Landing Tally will be a major boost and a move the players are likely to welcome.

The Galbally man has coached Tyrone (2003) and Kerry (2022) to All-Ireland titles, while he managed Down for three years (2019-21).

Tally’s imminent move, which has yet to be confirmed by Derry GAA, will mean a return to the Oak Leaf County, where he worked for three years when Brian McIver was in charge (2013-15).

It also leave Kerry, who have added Cian O’Neill as lead coach, on the lookout for a new ‘Performance Coach’ after Tally had initially replaced former Clare hurling All Star, Tony Griffin.
