Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler

UFC veteran slams Michael Chandler after 'begging' over Conor McGregor

by · Irish Mirror

A UFC veteran has slammed Michael Chandler over 'begging' Conor McGregor to fight, after losing his comeback bout.

Chandler was originally due to fight McGregor in June of this year but the fight was called off with the Dubliner suffering a toe injury.

And American fighter Chandler has been waiting patiently for McGregor since the fight was initially announced at the beginning of 2023.

Chandler has only fought once in the UFC since he was meant to fight McGregor, losing to Charles Oliveira last month.

But UFC veteran Josh Thomson has slammed the 38-year-old as he continues to wait for a big bout with McGregor.

Speaking on the Weighing In Podcast, he said: "You know what’s very cringe about this whole thing is that Chandler’s begging for the fight. He’s been begging for it for two years.

"It’s got to the point where, I mean, you waited two years and you came out and you lost your last fight, and now, you’re back online. Basically, chasing after the same guy, begging for the same fight. I don’t get it.

I thought that two years was too long. But I thought after a year, I’m like, ‘You know what? Your body’s rested, you’ve had some time away. I think it was good for him because his fights before that were some f***ing knockdowns, and drag-outs. But this is very cringe"

Chandler's next fight has not been announced while McGregor has not fought since 2021.

In the aftermath of the findings of a recent civil case where he was found liable for assault, McGregor has promised to return to the octagon.

However, there continue to be serious doubts over his future as he turns 37 next year, and his three-year absence does not inspire confidence in his return.
