UFC 309 medical suspensions: Stipe Miocic receives 60 days, 4 fighters hit with 90 day suspensions
by Damon Martin · MMA FIGHTINGThe medical suspension for UFC 309 have been revealed with the New York State Athletic Commission handing down the mandatory layoffs for all of the fighters on the card.
The longest suspensions handed down were for 90 days, which went to four fighters competing on the card. The New York State Athletic Commission confirmed the suspensions to MMA Fighting on Wednesday.
James Llontop received a 90-day suspension along with neurology clearance following his three round war with Mauricio Ruffy, which kicked off the main card this past Saturday night.
Heavyweight fighter Jhonata Diniz also received 90 days after he suffered a loss to Marcin Tybura on the prelims. Diniz sits for 90 days along with clearance from his primary care physician.
Mickey Gall also received a 90-day suspension after he knockout loss to Ramiz Brahijaj and the same goes for Bassil Hafez after he fell by knockout to Oban Elliott. Both fighters received 90 day suspension along with required neurology clearance before competing again.
As for former UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, he only received a 60-day suspension with primary care physician clearance required after he suffered a knockout loss to Jon Jones from a spinning back kick to the body.
While there were a number of erroneous reports about the damage that Miocic suffered from the kick that ended the fight, members of his team confirmed to MMA Fighting on Wednesday that outside of the cut on his face, he endured no other physical trauma from the fight.
The 60-day suspension also probably doesn’t matter much for Miocic because he announced his retirement from the sport following the loss to Jones at UFC 309.
