Tom Brady discusses FOX future and restrictions from Las Vegas Raiders role
Tom Brady has been speaking on his new role as a FOX NFL commentator as he continues to settle into life in the broadcast booth following his retirement from the game
by Daniel Blackham, Tom Beattie · The MirrorTom Brady, the famed former New England Patriots quarterback, has been dishing the dirt on his foray into broadcasting with FOX while grappling with his dual role as a co-owner of the Las Vegas Raiders.
The seven-time Super Bowl champ retired back in 2022 and signed a whopping $375 million deal to join the FOX team as their lead NFL colour commentator. Despite a chequered reception from viewers during his inaugural season on the mic, Brady's comments have been muzzled due to his ownership stake in the Las Vegas Raiders no bad-mouthing officials or other teams, and production meetings are off-limits.
In a revealing chat on Bryson DeChambeau's Break 50, Brady spilled the beans: "I get to be involved in the NFL for as long as I'm around, basically, because of ownership."
He confessed, "Being a broadcaster has been amazing, but also knowing beyond that, I get to be involved in the sport I love for the rest of my life and try to impact the game in a positive way and call out what I like, what I don't like."
The 47 year old shared his passion for the game, saying: "Sports brings everyone together ... my best memories of playing sports is the team element. I had so many people come into my life that enabled me to be the best I could be in my career. And now it's like, I get to be a mentor for so many other guys. That's the best part for me."
On another note, Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk revealed an intriguing theory on John Ourand's The Varsity podcast regarding Brady's absence from production meetings. He explained: "There's an interesting theory that's making the rounds in league circles, because there had been teams that have said to the league, 'We want Tom Brady to be involved in the production meetings."
"And through that push and pull because the league says no, no, no, no, no exceptions even if you waive it. It doesn't matter. There's been a sense that maybe Brady doesn't really want to do it anyway. Because you think of how thinly he's spread, all of the different things that he's doing, it may not be that he wants to be the absolute best at everything he does."
"It may just be that he wants us to think he's the absolute best at everything that he does, and he's doing a lot of different things and he's making a lot of different appearances and he's making a lot of money.."
He further commented: "Him being an owner and him being a broadcaster I think it keeps him from being the absolute best he could ever be. And it just always seemed beneath him - he's Tom Brady... I just wonder how many years he'll continue to do it."
