Ruben Amorim promises new contract for Man Utd star who has impressed him the most
New Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim says Amad - whose current deal is up at the end of this season - is in line for a new deal after impressing him in training and games
by David McDonnell · The MirrorRuben Amorim says Manchester United will hand Amad a new contract – after hailing him as one of the players who has impressed him the most.
Winger Amad is out of contract at the end of this season, although his current deal does contain an option to trigger a one-year extension.
But Amorim suggested the 22-year-old will be handed an improved new deal, rather than an extension, after making an instant impact under him.
Amad has impressed at right wing-back under Amorim, his relentless pressing and pace leading directly to two goals in Sunday's 4-0 win over Everton.
Against that backdrop, Amorim underlined Amad's importance to United and said the club will ensure a solution is found to suit both parties.
“I think he wants to stay and we want him to stay,” said Amorim. “So that's clear and we will find a solution.”
Amorim said one of Amad's strengths is his ability to play in a variety of positions in the 3-4-3 system the new United boss has implemented.
“That's one of the great advantages of Amad, for me,” said Amorim. “He’s very good playing in that position, but also playing between the lines, because he has good control and he seems faster with the ball than without the ball.
“So he's capable of playing in both positions and he can play in different systems. In the future, maybe we will play in a different system, so he's the kind of player we need in the team.”
