Luke Shaw has spoken of his devastation at suffering another injury setback that will keep him out until 2025.

The Manchester United and England left-back has suffered a muscular injury which is expected to keep him out for several weeks.

Shaw has been plagued by injuries in recent years and was out from February until November for United, although he did feature for England at Euro 2024. But the 28-year-old, who came off the bench in United’s 4-0 win over Everton at Old Trafford on Sunday, has suffered a new muscular injury.

In a heartbreaking statement posted on his Instagram story, Shaw wrote: “It’s hurting a lot having to write this as I really thought I had got through my recent struggles and was on a positive path going forwards, but unfortunately I’ve had a small setback.

“I’ve been through a lot and had a lot of ups and downs but this has definitely been my toughest period. I’m absolutely devastated and it’s extremely tough to come to terms with reality at this moment in time.

“I understand there is gunna be people frustrated, angry, disappointed and I understand all that. There is no one feeling that more than me at this moment in time.

“But what I can promise is I will do everything I can to come back better soon to help this club achieve its ambitions this season. Thank you to everyone for the support. It really doesn’t go unnoticed and I really do appreciate it.”

Luke Shaw hasn't started a competitive game since the Euros

The ex-Southampton man has been hugely versatile throughout his time in Manchester. Amorim is still getting to grips with his players and it remains to be seen, long-term, whether Shaw will play as a wing-back or as part of a back three.

Shaw has rarely featured for the Manchester outfit through 2024 and even went to the Euros in the summer despite him still fighting injury problems. He was unavailable for the opening matches of the tournament before becoming a key figure in the knockouts.
