Mikel Arteta provides Arsenal injury update on Gabriel, Partey and three others for Man Utd
by Kaya Kaynak · football.londonMikel Arteta has kept his cards close to his chest regarding the fitness of Gabriel Magalhaes ahead of Arsenal's Premier League clash with Manchester United.
The Brazilian scored for the second consecutive match in Sunday's victory over West Ham and also won a first-half penalty to allow Bukayo Saka to make the score 5-2. However, he was replaced by Jakub Kiwior at half-time as Arsenal looked to manage his fitness.
"It was related to the previous injury he had in Lisbon," Arteta admitted in his post-match press conference. "We decided to take him off."
Riccardo Calafiori also came off early in the second half at the London Stadium. He was replaced by Oleksandr Zinchenko, which Arteta admitted after the match was due to a minor injury problem.
Mikel Merino, Thomas Partey and Myles Lewis-Skelly were out of the matchday squad at the London Stadium due to knee and muscle injuries respectively.
Speaking ahead of Wednesday night's clash with United though, Arteta admitted a late decision will be taken on the involvement of all five players.
"We’re gonna have a meeting this afternoon," he said in his pre-match press conference. "We have done a training session. We monitored and kept some players away from certain activities. They all want to play."
