Derby County transfer latest as exciting talent has 'concrete' Rams interest
by Leigh Curtis · Derbyshire LiveFormer England international Carlton Palmer believes Aston Villa will want Louie Barry to be a regular starter in the Championship amid reported interest from Derby County.
Last week, the Rams were linked with the in-form forward who has scored 15 goals in all competitions this season while on loan at Stockport County in League One.
It is being claimed that Villa may now recall Barry and send him to the Championship to help the next phase of his development. Derby, Leeds and Middlesbrough are all said to be interested in the 21-year-old helping spearhead Stockport's promotion charge.
But Palmer says Villa will be mindful of the fact that should they send him out on loan to the second tier, they will not want him sitting on the bench. And out of all three Championship clubs that have been linked, Derby are perhaps his best bet for regular first-team football.
“He's already got 14 goals and has provided one assist in 19 league appearances for Stockport, who are in fifth place," Palmer told FLW. "It's thought that Villa are considering recalling him so that he can go on loan at a higher division for the second-half of the season.
"I think that's a bit cruel on Stockport, who have taken him on loan. He's found his feet at Stockport last season and this season, where he's done terrifically well. He's a huge talent. The one thing Villa will be concerned about if they recall him from Stockport and send him out to a Championship side, they would not want him to be sat on the bench so Leeds would have to convince them he's going to play week-in, week-out."
Montnor has MLS admirers as well as 'concrete' Derby interest
Jaden Montnor is being monitored by clubs in the USA after a fresh report claimed that Derby County's interest in the winger is "concrete".
The Rams were linked with the 22-year-old last week with Derby eager to bolster their attack when the market opens for business next month. Montnor currently plays for Cypriot side Aris Limassol and featured in their Champions League and Europa Conference campaign last season.
He has scored three goals in 11 games for Limassol this season and he has also been called up by the Suriname national team for whom he has played six games. And according to voetbalprimeur, the Rams have a firm interest in the winger, who is valued at around £600,000.
They report: "He is attracting interest from Greek powerhouse Panathinaikos and Championship clubs Derby County and Preston North End, VoetbalPrimeur knows.
"MLS clubs are also closely monitoring his situation. Derby County in particular, where fellow countryman and ex-AZ player Kenzo Goudmijn plays, is currently concrete."
