3 things you can do with a $240 MacBook (that you probably wouldn't with an expensive computer)

by · Boing Boing

TL;DR: Get a computer you can take anywhere when you get a MacBook Air refurb for $239.99 (reg. $999).

I already have a computer, but I want another. Here's why: if I rely on one machine for everything, a whole lot can go wrong if something ever happens to it. That means I'm missing out on a lot of the computer-having experience. If I want to work outside my office, I have to do it on my phone. That's why I've had my eye on refurbished MacBook deals like this MacBook Air.

It's only $239.99, and I can't stop thinking of everything I could do with it. That includes:

Acting like a college student in any given movie

Why are college students in movies always carrying around a bare MacBook? I've never seen anyone do that, but it looks incredibly convenient. If I already have my big, expensive computer at home, I can comfortably take a little risk and go sans-computer bag for the day. It looks freeing, like wearing pajamas to work. Bonus: this is a grade "B" refurb, so there might already be super minor cosmetic signs of wear on the computer, which makes me feel better about just tossing it in a backpack.

Watching movies on a plane

This MacBook Air is the perfect travel companion, especially for long flights where you just want to kick back and watch a movie. At under three pounds, it's light enough to toss in MY carry-on without even noticing it's there. Plus, with the 13.3-inch Retina display is just wide enough for comfort but not so huge that it's annoying to open up on one of those little airplane trays.

Setting up a coffee shop command center

Ever had that moment where you just want to leave the house and get some work done in a cozy café? This MacBook Air makes it incredibly easy to pack up and head to your favorite coffee spot. The Intel Core i5 processor and 8GB of RAM are more than enough to handle everything from answering emails to editing documents or even running more demanding programs like Photoshop.

If you're in the market for a second computer, this refurbished Macbook Air is a great find at $239.99 (reg. $999).
