Vanderpump Rules star Lala Kent defends whitening three-year-old daughter's teeth

Vanderpump Rules Lala Kent explained an accident that had led to her daughter Ocean having greying teeth, and justified her choice to give them more sparkle

Vanderpump Rules star Lala Kent, 34, has spoken out after facing criticism for altering her oldest daughter’s looks.

The reality TV star shares Ocean, three, with her ex-fiancé Randall Emmett. She also welcomed baby Sosa on September 3, who was born via Intrauterine Insemination with a sperm donor.

However, fans recently noticed that Ocean’s teeth looked different between different posts on her mum’s Instagram. While in some photos Ocean had a sparkling white smile, others showed the young girl’s front two teeth looking slightly grey.

Lana addressed accusations that she was editing Ocean’s teeth to make them look whiter on her Instagram Stories on Monday. “I’m usually the type to not read/ignore comments. But we are from Utah honey… We are teeth people! So I could not let this comment slide,” Lala opened the post, on top of a close up of her daughter smiling.

The social media influencer then explained the reason for Ocean’s slightly grey front teeth: “Ocean has a fond relationship with her wild side and enjoys not listening. She fell off her bike face first. There is trauma to the root of her two front teeth.” Lala went ahead and admitted that she did often edit Ocean’s teeth to look whiter, adding: “(Yes, I’m the mom who usually edits this. Go ahead and judge). The root isn’t dead, but we go to the dentist every 3-6 months for check-ins. They will likely have to be pulled or she will have to have a root canal.”

Despite the fact that Lala usually opts to tweak her daughter’s smile online, it seems that the young girl doesn’t have any hangups over her smile, with Lala sharing: “Ocean thinks they are ‘cool.’” Lala’s post clearing up her daughter’s injury and resulting tooth issue came amid a slew of comments speculating that she had permanent damage, or even that Lala may have whitened them permanently.

“Those children are beautiful and may they be blessed always but I have to ask, is that bottle rot on the front of the older one’s teeth? Don’t get me wrong she is precious but maybe it’s years of working in the children’s dental field but I spotted that almost immediately. I watched too many parents think baby teeth aren’t worth saving. But I hope I’m wrong,” one worried fan wrote on a recent Instagram post, with many others responding to weigh in on Ocean’s smile.

While Lala revealed that adventurous Ocean had an accident causing her tooth issue, she also recently opened up about a terrifying moment during Sosa's birth. "The cord was wrapped around her neck a couple of times. She goes out and I go to embrace my baby but she does one cry and then it stops,” Lala shared of her birth story.

It turned out Sosa had "swallowed a lot of amniotic fluid", which is a cushion for the growing foetus and facilitates the exchange of nutrients between mother and baby. The Vanderpump Rules star said: "She had so much fluid in her that she was vomiting all the food out." Doctors were extremely concerned by the sheer amount of liquid and wanted to refer her to a surgeon.

The mother-of-two recalled: "They're like, 'We want a surgeon to look at her because this isn't normal. We've got 10 millilitres of amniotic fluid out of her stomach the first time. Then we got another eight.'"
