A major supermarket chain has rushed to slash the price of vegetables to just 10p a bag – the lowest price ever - ahead of Christmas. The Sun newspaper reports Morrisons s hoppers will need to be quick to bag a bargain ahead of December 25.

Morrisons will lower the cost of Christmas vegetables, making their offer more affordable than any other supermarket. The supermarket is also slashing prices on other Christmas favourites as we head towards the festive season.

From Wednesday, More Card holders can grab a kilo of carrots, 500g of parsnips, 500g of sprouts and a whole swede, all for a mere 10p each. Shoppers will also be able to snag a 2kg bag of British Best potatoes for half price at just £1.15.

Fraser Lovatt, category director of produce and horticulture at Morrisons, said: "No Christmas dinner is complete without all the trimmings of the seasonal vegetables. By cutting the costs of products like carrots, parsnips, sprouts and potatoes, we are helping customers get all they need for the perfect festive roast without breaking the bank.

"Selling more of these products also stops them from going to waste and enables us to give more back to our important network of British farmers." Morrisons is giving its loyalty card customers savings across a range of 37 festive basket favourites this Christmas - with market-leading prices on Mulled Wine and Cranberry Sauce.

Morrisons has invested more than £2 million in lowering the prices for this Christmas so More Card holders can fill up the cupboards and freezers ahead of the big day - from traditional trimmings, condiments and wine, to crackers, biscuits and cheeses.

With prices live in store and online now until Tuesday 31st December - essential Christmas dinner components such as Morrisons Sage & Onion Stuffing (170g) at 45p, saving 30p, Double Cream (600ml) at £2.10, saving 20p, and a 1kg bag of frozen sprouts at £1.09 saving 30p all feature in the basket list.
